Painting of our products
The rabbit enclosure should not only offer enough space to allow your rabbits and guinea pigs enough exercise and room to run around. Hiding places and digging opportunities are also important to satisfy the natural instincts of your pets.
Wooden furniture can be a beautiful and natural addition to any home, but to keep it beautiful for a long time, it is important to protect it from various hazards.
Here are some tips from us on how to protect your wooden furniture from moisture, urine, parasites and diseases.
Buy your painting kit directly with your products, so you can start your project at home right away ❤️
Moisture can damage your rabbit equipment and make it more susceptible to mold and rot.
To avoid moisture, make sure your wooden furniture is not placed directly near water or moisture sources . Also, avoid placing your furniture directly on the floor if you have outdoor housing, as this can increase exposure to moisture.
When cleaning your wooden furniture, make sure it is completely dry afterwards .
The urine of our beloved pets can seriously damage wooden furniture and leave an unpleasant smell.
If a urine accident occurs, you should clean the area immediately and dry the wood thoroughly . To do this, we recommend placing your product in the sun or in a warm room during the winter.
Another way to prevent urine from penetrating the wood is to use special wood preservatives such as varnishes or glazes that are not toxic to your pets.
Wooden furniture can be infected by various bacteria, especially if your loved ones have brought along lodgers such as worms and coccidia.
To avoid this and make cleaning easier for you, you should make sure that your wooden furniture is cleaned regularly and that no food residue such as fresh food or dirt remains on the surface.
There are also special wood preservatives that can work against pests and bacteria - but these are harmful to our rabbits and guinea pigs!
To optimally protect your wooden furniture, we recommend having the following items on your shopping list:
- Wood preservatives , it is important that you pay attention to DIN standard 71.3 !
- Sandpaper wood - grain: Coarse: 60 Fine: 320
- Paint rollers , foam rollers are best for this in order to achieve a smooth surface afterwards.
-
Paint brush to reach all corners.
- Tarpaulin/fleece to protect your floor.
- Possibly a small paint tray to pour your paint into.
As a Hoppel workshop, it is a pleasure for us to have painted wooden products for you.
We know how important it is that our products are protected from urine and more and that they still look good even after extended use.
That's why we have endeavored to find the best varnishes and paints to optimally protect and enhance your wooden products.
To ensure that we are always up to date, we have also visited painters and varnishing workshops to learn from their experience and knowledge.
We know that there are many different types of paints and that each product requires an individual treatment and color to achieve the best results.
That is why we have endeavoured to constantly improve our techniques and skills in order to be able to provide you with advice and support on this topic as well.
- We continue to use toy paints that meet the 71.1 standard . These are non-toxic when dry and can therefore be gnawed.
These varnishes are available in clear as well as in many great colors for your home.
Step1:
Prepare your wooden product well and sand it again with coarse and fine sandpaper.
Step 2:
Now remove all the dust from your product, preferably with a hand broom or even with a vacuum cleaner.
It must be completely free of fine dust so that you can follow the next step.
Step 3:
Now you start with your first coat of varnish, which needs to be applied really thoroughly so that the wood doesn't warp after the drying phase.
Corners, sides and back parts must be painted, even if these sides are not visible.
The more thoroughly you varnish, the better the wood will be.
Now let it dry completely at room temperature.
Step 4:
Now that your paint is dry, continue with fine sandpaper to smooth out any small bumps while painting. - Please sand with the grain!
Here you lightly go over all surfaces with the sandpaper.
Then you remove all the dust again.
Step 5:
The last step is to paint the whole thing again with your varnish.
You will immediately notice that your surface is nice and soft and smooth.
Now let the whole thing dry again.
- You can repeat the last two steps up to 3 times, so your product is completely protected and can also be moved to the protected outdoor area.
